About the COMPASS Family Center

It’s hard navigating the world of special services, educational choices and recreation options. It’s even harder when families try to do it alone. That’s why we’re here.

We’re COMPASS. We help special needs families find direction.

The COMPASS Family Center provides family-centered services and support to empower parents caring for a child or adult with special needs. We work with families caring for individuals:

  • Who face the challenge of developmental and physical disabilities, chronic illnesses, learning differences or mental health issues, and who have diagnoses including autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, bipolar disorder or ADHD;
  • Who range in age from birth to young adults;
  • Who are from every income level and every level of need.

COMPASS programs compliment services that children and adults with special needs already receive through community programs and private practitioners. Services include a Needs Assessment and Family Action Plan, Family Guidance and Coaching, Special Education Advocacy, and Counseling Services including: Counseling at UCSD Pediatrics, Counseling to Adolescents and Young Adults with Learning Differences and Family Counseling. COMPASS also provides training to families and professionals and referrals to resources and services in the community.

About the 6th Annual STAR Fundraising Event

The STAR Event recognizes an outstanding community member serving the special needs community each year. And it helps us keep our doors open so we can continue to provide these crucial services to children and adults throughout San Diego County. This year’s honoree is Valerie Saraf, founder of the grassroots autism e-newsletter resource, Valerie’s List.

What: VIP Wine Tasting Reception with an opportunity to meet the honoree at 5:30 p.m.

STAR Event at 6:30 p.m., including heavy hors d' oeuvres, refreshments and entertainment.

-If you won’t be attending the event, you may donate your tickets to a COMPASS family and your gift will be fully tax-deductible.

OTHER DONATION OPPORTUNITIES

Live Auction and Opportunity Drawing

Each year at our STAR Event we raise additional funds by holding a live auction and opportunity drawing. In the past live auction items have included a private, in-home sushi party for eight, an in-home concert provided by Synergy to a group of 20 guests, a weekend getaway in a Rosarito beach home, and a sunset cruise on a private yacht.

Opportunity drawing items can include:

  • gift certificates
  • tickets to events
  • products
  • services

Donors to the live auction or opportunity drawing will receive:

  • Listing in the program
  • Listing in the COMPASS newsletter and on the website
  • Exposure to over 200 guests and attendees
  • Potential new clients

Purchase an Ad or Congratulatory Message to the Honoree in Our Awards Program

You may also purchase an advertisement or congratulatory message to our honoree Valerie Saraf in our 2011 Awards Program. The program is printed in black and white and provided to all attendees.
